Overview

SUMMARY:

The Senior Systems Engineer reports to the Director IT, Data Center Services for North America and designs, builds and maintains infrastructure within the on-premise data centers and Microsoft Azure Cloud.  Works in close partnership with internal peers and external service providers to recommend technologies or systems improvements that support organizational goals and ensure data center performance and operation is reliable and compliant with the respective Service Level Agreements, audit requirements and local regulations.

Responsibilities

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs application infrastructure by working closely with the Solution Specialist to understand the Application Blueprint of the solution and document the technical detail to realize the solution infrastructure aligned to IT Architecture standards.
  • Oversees outsourcing partners to deliver the right quality of services, compliance with organizational policies and procedures and maintain collaborative partnership(s).
  • Manages data center capacity and availability according to demand; take appropriate action to ensure infrastructure is covering business demand by establishing capacity management discipline with a demand/supply process
  • Monitors and control IT services and infrastructure through detailed oversight of day-to-day routine tasks related to the operation of infrastructure components and applications are executed timely and correctly.
  • Implements backup processes to safeguard company information. Test for validity, authentication and security to ensure restored data is available when needed in an efficient manner.
  • Delivers Technical Designs that reflect architectural, security, performance, scalability, and reliability requirements.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION & JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field with three (3) or more years of data center experience; preferably managing outsourcing contracts, Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements with Data Center suppliers.  Additional work experience in lieu of degree accepted.  Highly skilled with Microsoft Azure. ITIL 3 certification.

 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting Wintel and/or UNIX/Linux based environments.
  • Solid Cloud experience, preferably in Azure
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Knowledgeable of system monitoring practices.
  • Knowledgeable of robotic process automation software (e.g. UIPath).
  • Skilled in scripting (e.g., PowerShell and shell scripts).
  • Knowledge of network systems (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships with customers, peers and key stakeholders based on respect and team work
  • Ability to use analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills to identify key issues and formulate conclusions based on sound, practical judgment, and experience.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and manages efficiently during crisis situations
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and communication skills that enable cooperation with team members in project management, security, asset management, help desk departments, etc.
  • Ability to effectively evaluate the progress of teams and provide guidance and instruction to help them solve problems and manage projects.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to act under strong pressure and to manage efficiently crisis situations.
  • Ability to evaluate information, identify key issues and formulate conclusions based on sound, practical judgment, experience and common sense.
  • Skilled in the management of outsourcing contracts, KPI’s and SLA’s preferably with Data Center suppliers.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
