  • Overview



    Category Manager will be responsible for managing multiple spend categories in excess of $15MM a year on the indirect side in areas such as Marketing, HR, Operations, etc. Works in concert with the Senior Vice President of Procurement on category management initiatives supporting all Adecco North America business units. Project Leader of the Procurement Team with a focus on category management, supplier management, contract negotiation, as well as risk mitigation, business/commodity support and legal engagement.

    Primary responsibilities include ensuring spend categories managed are made at the lowest costs, highest quality, while providing an overall value add to the internal stakeholder.  In addition, this individual would be responsible for cost savings/avoidance strategy, process efficiency and standardization, and continuous improvement.  Works under general direction.




    • Develop and communicate strategy/plans for each assigned category.  To include at a minimum, annual quality/delivery/cost improvements, supplier selection and optimization.
    • Monitor market conditions, price trends, and potential opportunities – develop and implement action plans to maximize value.
    • Lead complex and strategically important negotiations and establishes key objectives
    • Project Management of Category Cross Functional Teams to achieve project goals.
    • Conducts in-depth competitive market trend analyses, negotiates and/or renegotiates all contractual agreements. Provides leadership to Sourcing and Procurement Team in the administration of all contracts and service agreements within North America.
    • Generate specific knowledge of technical requirements involved with assigned categories responsibility.
    • Develop successful business cases and recommend changes to Sr. Management
    • Identifies new cost-saving opportunities by working with respective NA Business Leaders to establish strategic direction and potential suppliers for stated new programs.
    • Develops baseline analyses and new contracts documents and requirements including RFP-RFI’s and RFQ’s for bidding, evaluating and awarding projects.  Conducts a minimum of (2) rounds of negotiations, prepare savings analyses, implementation plans and final Contract Summary recommendation for Business Leader review & approval, in conjunction with SVP/CFO approval.
    • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.







    Bachelor's Degree required in Business Administration or related area plus minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Purchasing and Category Management. Must have a proven track record of improving supplier performance including quality, delivery and cost.




    • Strong analytical skills and ability to review data and turn it into a story or business case.
    • Knowledge of Category Management, Requirements Gathering, Sourcing Process.
    • Supplier relationship and performance management skills.
    • Good working knowledge of best practice category and spend management, tools & templates, and effective stakeholder management.
    • Experience with Procure to Pay Systems.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
    • Strong record of innovation and problem solving.
    • Proficiency in data mining, creating reports, etc.
    • Skilled in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
